  • Zach Hart · 10 months ago
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace...Only six episodes on Brittan's Channel 4, the show is pure B-Sci Fi Comedy at it's best. Gave us the worst ADR of all time and one of the greatest quotes in the history of television:

Garth: "I'm probably the only person who has written more books then they've read.
  • Corey Redekop · 10 months ago
I'm not sure if Canadians can enter, but what the hell.

My favourite comedy series (other than Python) is Futurama. Always laugh with it. Always.
  • emccullough · 10 months ago
Favorite television comedy *other* than Monty Python's Flying Circus. Hmmm. Well, I'm a student of the old school -- Put me down for The Andy Griffith Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
  • Drunk Country · 10 months ago
Spaced. Modern British comedy has been shaped by all the writers & comedians involved with this xcellent program. You can even draw parallels with The Office. Marvelous stuff.
  • Jewlie · 10 months ago
Oh my God how I love Monty Python. So, so much.

My favorite show (aside from Flying Cirus) would have to be either Mr Show or, somewhat predictabley, Arrested Development. It's hard to recommend those to people since most have seen them, but when you find a MS or AD virgin, introducing them to the sheer comedic genius of either of those shows is so VERY satisfying.
  • Riley · 10 months ago
My favorite television comedy of all time is The Simpsons.
  • Adam Mandel · 10 months ago
    It's gotta be the Simpsons.
  • Ken Mueller · 10 months ago
I'm all over the place with comedies, but I really like Everybody Loves Raymond. Anyone who has ever been married and had in-laws can relate. A VERY quotable show. And as for shows that no one remembers, there was a short lived show called Davis Rules with Jonathan Winters and Randy Quaid. Very funny show.
  • John the VI · 10 months ago
Sledge Hammer! Best guilty pleasure of all time! Hands down.
  • depresso · 10 months ago
Black Books, without any doubt. It's comedy perfection.
  • Zack McDonald · 10 months ago
Curb Your Enthusiasm. Prettttty. Pretttttttttty. Pretttttttttttttttttttty Good.
  • Rich · 10 months ago
It may just be recency bias, but I have to go with 'Arrested Development' as my current fave. Funny, smart, and full of memorable characters. Sad that it only lasted three seasons, but I didn't even start watching until during the second year.

Hard to vote against 'Seinfeld' either way. A long and consistent run, and I'll still watch the reruns without hesitation.
  • Joey G. · 10 months ago
    The Office UK...
David Brent is such an ass.
  • Ali · 10 months ago
If pushed to name only one, I'd say Little Britain!
  • Steph · 10 months ago
So many to choose from, I will go with Seinfeld. Great show.
  • montag · 10 months ago
Freaks and Geeks for sure. Absolutely hilarious and perfect. I can identify with so much in that show. (sigh) Though I'm a huge fan of British comedy too: Python, The Office, Spaced, etc
  • Skip · 10 months ago
My favorite comedy is "Seinfeld", because it purposely was devoid of sentimentality and broke out of the 3-camera one-set sitcom format. Classic.
  • Scott S. · 10 months ago
My favorite is still Seinfeld. Family Guy is working its way up the ladder though.
  • Sandra K · 10 months ago
I love the dry humor of Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce so I would have to say Frasier was one of the best comedy series.
  • Mary D · 10 months ago
    Type your comment here.
Okay, it's really hard to top the Monty Python bunch (omg - I SO LOVED their 'Flying Circus' program)...
BUT, you just can't beat British humor, so I will say definitely MR. BEAN!!! (Rowan Atkins rocks)
Fantastic Giveaway, Thank You So Much
PS- I WANT TO WIN THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH :)

My favourite television comedy of all time may well be Flight of the Conchords; it's the mix of the subtle, awkward comedy (which only gets better the more you watch the show) and the brilliant songs - I still have "Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor" stuck in my head. They got Michel Gondry to direct the last episode!
  • Aisling · 10 months ago
This would be marvelous to have. My husband and I could watch and then ship it off to another family member who would pass it on to another and on and on. By the time it got back home, we'd be ready to watch again. We're all Python fans.
  • Aisling · 10 months ago
My apologies for being unable to read and comment appropriately. Other than Python, I'd choose something All American: Happy Days.
  • voldermania · 10 months ago

  • Cutter · 10 months ago
I recommend Mr. Show (with Bob & David).

Really off-the-wall, funny stuff, and pretty groundbreaking for sketch humor. The way the sketches segue into the next, and sometimes come full circle to where the episode began, is pretty cool.

"The science of Derek-ology is in full effect!"
  • Mike · 10 months ago

  • Leon M. Bridges · 10 months ago
Family Guy continues to use low-brow slap-stick comedy, laced thoroughly with very relevant insightful shots at any and all aspects of life. Completely worthy of the title of best comedy series of all time.
  • Todd · 10 months ago
The Drew Carey Show, until the last season. What was up with that?

  • Seth Christenfeld · 10 months ago
I have to vote for Arrested Development. (But nobody's shown any love for Father Ted? Down with that sort of thing!)
  • Shane · 10 months ago
I'll go out on a limb and say "Three's Company". Yes, it's campy 70's slapstick and sex comedy, but to this day I still get a chuckle from following the follies of Jack Tripper and the gang.
  • hyde_4 · 10 months ago
while i whole-heartedly agree that the simpsons are the best, CHEERS is spectacular. maybe better.
  • grantline · 10 months ago
My favorite comedy of all time was the Mary Tyler Moore Show.
  • Eric Sinclair · 10 months ago
The US comedy I go back to again and again is the Mary Tyler Moore show; when we moved to our current home, we had recorded 20 hours or so on VHS off of cable, and as we were getting settled and saving money those episodes were all we had to watch in our non-cable existence (outide fuzzy PBS and local news...).

It still holds up 13 years after that overdose, bringing a smile regularly.

Runners up would be the original Bob Newhart, and Barney Miller for US shows. Probably the too-brief Fawlty Towers, or Alan Partridge shows in a UK context (unless we can count QI!)
  • don konkey · 10 months ago
I really enjoyed "WKRP In Cincinnati" but I loved the way they were able to create a real ending for "One Foot In The Grave"
  • Mia J. · 10 months ago
    I liked the Newhart show.
  • Bruce · 10 months ago
    M*A*S*H

It had some moments that were less successful than I suspect they'd like, but so much of it still stands up, many years late. I've always been impressed by how much of it (and how much of the best of it) was done as in-character improvisation. The fact that it wasn't a pure comedy, but had serious drama as its other side, highlighted the lighter moments terrifically. I doubt we shall ever see its like again, and hope to be proved wrong.
  • nathan · 10 months ago

Best comedy series of all time? Police Squad. Just the right amount of deadpan humor mixed with puns and slapstick and so much funnier than the movies.

A Monty Python addict, I considered John Cleese to be the funniest man on the planet. Then I saw the Fawlty Towers series and he became the funniest man in the Universe, out of this world. On a visit to Scotland, we found a real life Fawlty in a highlands retaurant - this guy's nickname there was - yes, Fawlty.
All those characters in the twelve episodes were just like real life people most of us have known, displaying their hilarious oddities .

I would love to replace those tapes with this DVD set. I'd have to say that my favorite tv comedy is either the Flying Circus or Are You Being Served? I just love that British sense of humor.

Newsradio had a great ensemble cast and two episodes - the one where Jimmy James has his autobiography "Capitalist Liontamer" translated into Japanese and back into English, where it becomes "Macho Business Donkey Wrestler," and the one where awkward Matthew turns 30 and goes through a punk rock phase - feature some of the most laugh out loud funny moments in tv history. Kids in the Hall, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Seinfeld, and the first eight years of the Simpsons get honorable mention.

  • c.flanigan · 10 months ago
I just love Will and Grace! I always laugh at Jack and Karen. I don't care how many times I have seen an episode...I'll just watch it again and again!
  • Fitz H · 10 months ago
"Freaks and Geeks" for sure. It is a crime that they canceled it so soon, though I suppose that's due more to the public's terrible taste in television shows and subsequent bad ratings for good shows. The day after tests, my high school algebra teacher would put in a disc of the show, and we'd watch a new episode.. I think I saw the majority of the show there.
  • redfantum · 10 months ago
Monty Python is the epitome, but I guess I could go with Red Dwarf.
  • Oliver Williams · 10 months ago
Arrested Development. I keep finding new things to laugh at everytime I re-watch it.

    Murphy Brown

Every era has it's own great comedy shows, like "My Little Margie," "December Bride," "The Ann Southern Show," "Father Knows Best," "The Donna Reed Show," "I Married Joan," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Andy Griffith," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Green Acres," and many many more. Probably the most notorious and most controversal woule be "All in the Family."
  • Chrysa · 10 months ago
It's a current show, but I love The Office.
  • Melanie · 10 months ago
    I love Lucy.
    It was pure, simple comedy!
  • Joey Null · 10 months ago
    Definitely The Simpsons.
  • Dallan Elk · 10 months ago
That's a rough call. There have been sooo many really good comedies. I think the big bang ranks up there
  • Andria · 10 months ago
    I love Curb your Enthusiasm
  • Lobbyman · 10 months ago
Blackadder has always been my favorite. I have no idea why, but a suppose it fits in with this giveaway.
  • Cory Brown · 10 months ago
All In The Family still never gets old and for a topical comedy, that's saying something. Taxi runs a close second for me and while the moral high ground that both frequently take can get a little heavy handed compared to today's best, the laughs are always top notch.
  • Susan Ledet · 10 months ago
I've always been a big fan of Monty Python. My favorite TV comedy show of all time was Laugh In (giving my age away now).
    Thanks for the great giveaway.
  • ktanjatk · 10 months ago
My favorite would be British sitcom "Only fools and horses"

    Thanks for the awesome prize!

Other than Flying Circus, The Simpsons.
  • LeifE · 10 months ago
While Monty Python definitely ranks in my top 5, I'll have to go with early Saturday Night Live as my fave.
  • Michael · 10 months ago
Over the years there have no doubt been many classic comedy shows, each in their own way allowing us to "lighten up" about life's circumstances. My personal selection for the best overall is The Red Skelton Show, for two reasons: 1) it was comedy suitable for the entire family, and 2) I've personally met Mr. Skelton, and from our brief conversation one thing became obviously clear to me - this man lived to entertain. "Good night, and may God bless"

I'd have to say Aqua Teen Hunger Force, or Little Britain.
  • Geoff K · 10 months ago
My favorite TV comedy of all time is the tragically short-lived "Arrested Development" -- truly unique set of kooky characters, brilliant absurdist humor, chock full of random asides and references (and cross-references between episodes) -- in fact, a lot of the same qualities that make "Monty Python" such a classic show. Thanks for the giveaway!

Keeping Up Appearances is hilarious. It's a British comedy about a middle aged female named Hyacinth & her three sisters all named after flowers (Rose, Daisy & I can't recall the third off the top of my head). Hyacinth is obsessed with impressing people. It's hilarious.
  • mike · 10 months ago
Right now, The Venture Brothers... all time though, has to be The Simpsons. Nothing is more consistantly funny than Homer's antics.
  • Ardy22 · 10 months ago
Without a doubt, it is All in the Family!!

  • Paul Labita · 10 months ago
Aside from Monty Python, obvs, it would have to be Animaniacs... wait, no, Arrested Development, WAIT, NO, ANIMAINELOPMENT!
  • lionel · 10 months ago
Television comedy of all time? The Honeymooners starring Jackie Gleason. Great black and white TV dealing with marriage, friendship, patience, the plight of the working man, and nosy in-laws. Brilliant stuff.
  • Michael · 10 months ago
Outside of Python I've always loved Benny Hill. Of the more recent offerings Coupling never failed to be good for a laugh. Fraiser (and specifically the performance of David Hyde Pierce) provided years of laughter.
  • Jen · 10 months ago
Just one? Seinfeld it is. Ridiculous and hilarious all at once.
  • Juliette · 10 months ago
My favorite of all time is "NORTHERN EXPOSURE". Hands down. Didn't even have to think about it! Sure do miss that show.........

Either Seinfeld, the Simpson's or the Golden Girls
