The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, a memoir about a dysfunctional family. (Jeannette used to work for MSNBC before leaving a couple years ago to write full time.)

I have to agree with Margie Bunting. Being an avid reader myself, I could name 20+ novels that I consider favorites. Also check out Jesus Land by Julia Scheeres, another good book about a dysfunctional family.
